Needs and Objectives
Needs Statement
In surveys conducted by Baylor College of Medicine among
pediatricians attending symposia sponsored by Baylor, respondents
have expressed a need to be kept updated on innovations, discoveries,
and changes in the approach to diagnosis, care, and management
of pediatric patients. The 2000-2001 educational objectives
of the American Academy of Pediatrics specifically list topic
areas in which pediatricians should have current knowledge.
The presentation in this activity addresses evaluation of
the child with the first seizure.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this enduring material, the participant
should be able to describe and identify:
- The differences between seizures and epilepsy.
- How to plan an evaluation of a child with a first seizure.
- Factors that will predict a seizure recurrence.
- The rationale for developing a treatment plan.
Target Audience
This online enduring material is designed to meet the educational
needs of Pediatricians, Family Practice Physicians, General
Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Nurses and Nurse Practitioners.
