Needs and Objectives

Needs Statement

In surveys conducted by Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) among pediatricians attending symposia sponsored by BCM, respondents have expressed a need to be kept updated on innovations, discoveries, and changes in the approach to diagnosis, care, and management of pediatric patients. The 2000-2001 educational objectives of the American Academy of Pediatrics specifically list topic areas in which pediatricians should have current knowledge. The presentation in this activity addresses the strategies for conducting a successful adolescent patient interview.


Objectives

Upon completion of this enduring material, the participant should be able to identify and describe:

  • Why the adolescent interview must be different
  • How to “set the stage” for a successful interview
  • How to obtain critical psychosocial information from teens
